George Lane bought into the sprawling Bar U Ranch in 1902. He built the largest Percheron breeding operation in Canada. The story told is that in 1912 after George purchased a number of sections of land around the Highwood River, he passed a lineup of children waiting to see a circus. But, not all the children could go as it was too expensive for their families. George could hear these children crying and swore that he would provide a place where children, rich or poor, could always go to play and have fun.

In 1951, the donated land was officially named the George Lane Memorial Park. A campground was added later on and the park became known as the George Lane Memorial Park and Campground.

Situated in the charming town of High River, George Lane Campground offers a welcoming retreat for nature lovers, adventure seekers and movie buffs alike. High River is a western town – an easy drive to the nearby foothills and mountains, and it is nestled in the prairies, where you’ll fine the vast farming and ranch lands of western Canada. The views are spectacular, the people friendly and the forecast is usually sunny. It’s also known as the “Home of Heartland” the beloved western TV series which is filmed right here. If you’re lucky, you may even see some of your favourite actors, and some of the sets are in plain sight on the local streets.
